You Can Do It! Video from the PROVE Project

Being diagnosed with a chronic disease can be one of life’s scariest moments. As someone who works with newly diagnosed diabetic patients often, I understand the fear, confusion, and “now what?” attitude that can quickly follow.

Last summer (hello blondie!) I paired with the PROVE campaign to develop a video that would be shown to new diabetic patients, as encouragement to get them started on a management plan. The series also features interviews with a Certified Diabetic Educator, Physical Therapist, Pharmacist, & Physician.

It is beyond awkward to watch yourself on camera. Wow! I know I use my hands when I speak, but this might be taking it a little far? My Italian ancestors should be proud :)

Hope you enjoy, feel free to share with others who need words of encouragement and/or motivation.

Have a great weekend!

Fresh squeezed orange juice for special Sunday morning brunches. Also makes a great base for limeade.

My low-oil pesto sauce. Try it on baked eggplant!

DIY cleaning products. Need I say more? Save money, the earth, and your family from nasty chemicals.

This oatmeal is so, so good. Try it soon with fresh blueberries.

Bike riding. BL and I have been doing a ton of riding lately and I can’t get enough of it! Last weekend we did a 50 mile loop on Sat. and then biked through wine country on Sunday. I never want summer to end.

What inspired you this week?

5 things

It’s funny what inspires you. I am often surprised on where I get an idea for a recipe;  waking through a grocery store, something on TV, magazines, or reading menus. Sometimes though inspiration it has nothing to do with food. In striving to live the healthiest life for me, I try to challenge myself to find beauty (and therefore inspiration) in all things. Here are 5 things that are inspiring me this week.

Cherry tomatoes from our garden. So sweet, I’m eating them  like candy.

Enjoying the scenery, kayaking in Tahoe.

I have been swimming in Swiss Chard from our CSA; made these delicious enchiladas this week using caramelized onions and swiss chard.
